Apollo 15 was the US¡¯s ninth manned mission to space and the fourth one to
land on the moon. It took off successfully from Cape Canaveral on July 26,
1971. Though NASA did not know it at the time, Apollo 15¡¯s crew of three had
brought aboard a very special item. Before leaving Earth, Commander David R.
Scott had contacted a Belgian artist named Paul Van Hoeydonck. The commander
asked the artist to make a finger-sized statue in the shape of a human. It
would represent the fourteen fallen astronauts, both American and Russian, who
had dedicated their lives to further mankind¡¯s progress in space. On August 1,
the crew climbed to the top of one of the moon¡¯s highest peaks and placed the
statue there, along with a plaque inscribed with the brave astronauts¡¯ names.

Vitamin E is an essential part of the human diet that occurs naturally in
several chemical compounds. The vitamin¡¯s main function is to protect the
body¡¯s cells against free radicals, which are molecules that can attack cells
and lead to genetic mutations. This protective role is important in preventing
many forms of cancer caused by cell damage from free radicals. Vitamin E compounds
are generally found in cooking oils, nuts, and certain green vegetables, though
low levels of the compound can be traced in a wide range of foods. Recently,
doctors have begun recommending these foods to heart patients because of their
suspected role in preventing heart blockages and disease. Doctors encourage
at-risk patients to consume moderate amounts of these foods each day in order
to ensure that they receive the nutrients that their bodies lack. The recommended
dosage for adults is 14 milligrams per day, whereas children should consume between
4 to 11 milligrams daily.
